Obituary for George Washington Ford

George Washington Ford- age 89 of Lake, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant. George was born on February 9, 1927 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Louis Lloyd and Agnes (Jackson) Ford. George proudly served our country first with the United States Navy during WWII, and subsequently as a re-enlistee during the Korean War with the United States Air Force. He served from 1944 until his discharge in February, 1953 as a Staff Sergeant. His appointments were as Weather Observer and Equipment Technician. He was decorated with an American Area Ribbon, an Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon, a Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and a WWII Victory Ribbon, and a Korean Service Medal. On July 31, 1982 he married the love of his life, Esther Lamb, in South Haven, Michigan. George earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University, and a Master’s Degree from University of Michigan. George worked as a Nuclear Engineer for Consumers Energy, and as the head operator of Nuclear Reactor for U of M. George love to hunt, fish, camp, and was a voracious reader. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 558 and a member of the VFW Post # 3039 in Farwell. George is survived by his wife of 34 years, Esther, and children Nick Warren and wife Karen of Kendallville, IN, Dennis Warren of Sears, MI. Darcy Price and husband Bruce of Midland, Cheryl Warren of East Lansing, Justine McKenna and husband Marty of Kalamazoo, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Della Rigby, and a sister Nancy Talbot. A service is planned for Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 3PM at the Campbell-Stocking Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Farwell. Friends and family may visit from 2PM until the time of services.
