Helen M. Madison – age 89 of Lake, with unwavering faith in God, entered Heaven’s gates on February 25, 2017 at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant. She was born on April 18, 1927 the daughter of Harmon and Murial (McAllister) Straugh in Fenton, MI. Helen married Harold Madison, who preceded her in death on July 20, 2013. She was a talented seamstress and crafter. Helen provided a safe haven for abused women and children in the Lansing area, assisted many friends and neighbors during hard times, and also helped support Boys Town thru her donations.
Helen is survived by her children: Patrick Sampson of Lake, Vicky Benson of Nebraska, and Katherine Wieland of Okemos; eight grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Joyce Premeaux of Lansing and Mary Jane Jones of Elma, WA; a brother, Paul Straugh of Dinuba, CA; a sister-in-law, Patricia (Don) Straugh of Hillman; and many friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; a newborn daughter, Sandra Sampson; husbands: J. Ernest Sampson, Matt Wieland, Charles Brown and Harold Madison; a brother, Donald Straugh; sisters: Eva (Elwood) Cheney and Ilah (Lester) Monroe; a step-daughter, Carol (Bruce) Duff; and grandsons, Jay and Marty Duff.
