Herbert “Bert” Woodcraft- age 91, of Lake, passed away at Horizons Senior Living Center in Clare on Friday, October 27, 2017. He was born on April 10, 1926 to parents Herbert Edward and Florence Alice (Crabb) Woodcraft in Detroit, Michigan. At the age of 18, Bert proudly enlisted with the United States Navy. He completed his basic training at Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois and was later stationed in Elizabeth City, N.C. on the USS Hedron and at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, TX during his next two years of service. Prior to discharge he was decorated with an American Area Campaign Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. After his discharge he was married to Leona E. Sherman on August 2, 1947 in Hazel Park, Michigan. Together they raised seven children and Bert made a living as a Tool & Die Machinist. He was a member of the Crooked Lake Improvement Assoc., and also the Wilson-Blackmer DAV Chapter #105 in Lake. He worked as a janitor and maintenance man for Farwell State Savings Bank-Lake Branch for 20 years. Bert was a Boy Scout Leader in Berkley, MI and also here in the Farwell-Lake area. His time spent with Boy Scouts was very important to him. Left to cherish his memory are his children; Kenneth E. Woodcraft of Lake, Claudia J. Randall and husband Robert of Lake, LeAnn Cheryl Carr and husband Danny of Fowlerville, Cynthia Darlene Smith of Farwell, Charlene Marie Jones and husband Robert of Lake, Bruce Herbert Woodcraft and wife Valentina of Midland, Ronald William Woodcraft and wife Kathie of Waterford, thirteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, one great-great-great-grandchild, brother-in-law LeVerne Sherman of Clare, sister Betty Jean Wrobbel and husband Henry of Waterford, and sister-in-law June Woodcraft of West Branch. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona on August 26, 2001 and brother Edward Howard Woodcraft and daughter-in-law Sherree Musson Woodcraft. A Funeral Service is planned for Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11AM, at the Lake Baptist Church, 9144 Gibson Ave., Lake, Michigan. Ron Woodcraft will officiate. Herbert will be laid to rest in Garfield Township Cemetery, in Lake. Rev Terry Hose will preside over the graveside service. Military Honors will take place at the graveside. Family will receive visitors on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 2 until 8PM at the Campbell-Stocking Funeral Home in Farwell, and again on Thursday at the Lake Baptist Church from 9:30 AM until the time of service.
