Obituary for Robert William "Bob" Kube

Robert William Kube- age 97 of Farwell, passed away on February 1, 2018 at North Woods Nursing Center in Farwell. Bob was born on December 18, 1920 in Detroit to parents Arthur Godfrey and Cecil Lucretia (Lockwood) Kube, the eldest of five children. He graduated from Farwell High School in 1940 and was married to Helen Marie Waddington in Gilmore Township on April 5, 1941. He was employed briefly with Dow Chemical before enlisting with the United States Army in Oct. of 1944. He proudly served and protected during WWII with the 1st Army 47th Infantry Regiment 9th Infantry Division as a front line machine gunner. Bob was decorated with many medals which included a Belgian Forge Air division Honor Rope, WWII Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, EAME campaign Medal w/ 2 bronze stars, a Victory Medal, Combat Infantry badge, Honorable Service lapel button and Sharpshooter badge with rifle bar. After his Honorable discharge he worked as a machinist with Holley Carburetor and retired after 30 years. Bob was a charter member the VFW Post #3039 of Farwell, a member of the American Legion and a 50 year member of the James A. Cliff Masonic Lodge # 424. He loved to garden and always enjoyed generously sharing his home grown vegetables and fruit. He loved woodworking, hunting, fishing and was an avid gun collector. He is survived by his wife of nearly 77 years, Helen, his children; Kenneth Kube and wife Carolyn of Lake Isabella, daughter Marsha Prince and husband Leroy of Lake Isabella, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren, brother James Kube and wife Kay of Bay City, sisters; Alice Patras and Leroy Campbell of Gladwin, Helen Schmid and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Kube, and Diane Heins, and sister Catherine Orton. A cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be planned for late spring, early summer.
