Edwin Leroy "Bud" McNeilly- age 88, passed away at his home in Lake on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. Bud was born on January 21, 1930, the son of Edwin and Dorothy (Gibbs) McNeilly in Sears, Michigan. Bud was a "self-starter" in every way, starting his own contracting business in 1976 and developing a property rental business as well as owning and operating the McNeilly 'Supermarket. He was a philanthropist to the "Nth" degree, supporting agencies such as the Clare Co. Fair, 4H, the Village of Lake, Clare Depot Project, Rails to Trails/ Lake Depot, Education projects, Museums, Clare County Animal Shelter, St. Jude’s Hospital, and Mid-MI Hospice and Home Care. Bud was an active member of Moose, Elk, Eagles, American Legion, Operating Engineers Union Local #324 since 1951, Clare County Road Commission, Farwell DDA, Farwell School Board, and Lake Rod & Gun Club. Bud and Faith enjoyed many winters in Florida where he was involved in the local crime watch program. Bud will be greatly missed by his wife Faith, three children: son, Rick McNeilly and wife Cheryl of Lake; daughters, Cindy Trucks and husband Dave of Lake, and Nancee Jelsema and husband Al of Mecosta; nine grandchildren: Aric McNeilly, Angela Montgomery, Heath Houghton, Heather Martin, Chris and Tony Foster, Angela, Kevin, and Matthew Trucks; 5 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; one brother James and wife Betty McNeilly of Barryton; a sister, Eloise McNeilly of Mecosta, and many more relatives, friends, and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson Shawn Sorensen. A funeral service is planned for Friday, May 4th, 2018, at 1PM at the Clare Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Jim Young will officiate. Bud will be laid to rest in the East Fork Township Cemetery in Barryton. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 2 to 8 PM at the Campbell-Stocking Funeral Home in Farwell. There will also be a visitation time at the church on Friday, from 10 AM until the time of service at 1PM. Consider memorial donations as provided on a list at the funeral home.
