Obituary for Lyle Robert Swanson
Lyle Robert Swanson – age 84 of Farwell, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Green Acres Mt. Pleasant. He was born on May 6, 1934 the son of Edwin and Hulda (Nyquist) Swanson in Manton Michigan. Lyle married Doris Fay Elenbaas on November 19, 1954 in Cadillac, Michigan and together they raised two sons. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2016.
He was proud of his Swedish Heritage. Lyle joined the Michigan State Police in 1957 and retired in 1968 after an on-duty auto accident in 1965. He also worked as a Juvenile Court Administrator for Clare and Gladwin Counties. Lyle was a member of the Michigan Army National Guard retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Clare Optimus Club, Rotary Club, Odd Fellows and the Masonic Lodge.
Lyle is survived by his son, Timothy and wife Jennifer Swanson of Mt. Pleasant; daughter in-law, Candy Swanson of Farwell; five grandchildren: Timothy H. Swanson, Nikki (Cori) Wolfgang, Jenn (Travis) Roth, Joe (Shannon) Swanson, and Alex Swanson; and nine great grandchildren.
Lyle was preceded also by a son, Frederik Lyle Swanson; three brothers: Harold, John, and Glen Swanson.
Funeral services for Lyle will be held at Campbell Stocking Funeral Home and Cremation Center on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 11 AM. Visitation for Lyle will be on Wednesday from 2 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home and on Thursday from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the service. Pastor Teresa Witten will preside with burial following in Surrey Township Cemetery with Police and Military Honors.
