Barry Coleman Babcock- age 69 of Farwell, passed away at his residence Sunday, November 19, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Barry was born October 24, 1948 in Flint, Michigan to parents James Coleman and Beatrice June (Davis) Babcock. Barry graduated from Farwell High School in 1966 and also attended Ferris State University for two years before returning home to help manage and run the family business; Jim’s A&W Drive-In in Farwell. He was married to Patricia Ann Carr on March 22, 1969 at the Farwell United Methodist Church. He was a member of the REACT emergency storm watchers team in the 1970’s as well a member of the Farwell Police Auxiliary before attending Michigan’s Police Academy in 1979. Barry became a certified police officer in May of 1979 and began working for the Village of Farwell Police Department; eventually becoming the Chief of Police for Farwell before the department was disbanded. After the elimination of Farwell's Police Department Barry hired on with the Clare County Sheriff’s Department as a patrol deputy for 2 years before moving on to the Clare City Police Department where he finished out his law enforcement career; retiring as a Police Detective in Dec. 31, 2008. Barry was extremely community minded and served his community selflessly and with great pride. He loved to fish and hunt; especially in Wyoming, where he managed to take many trips with his wife and children. Traveling was a passion before and after retirement for Barry, and he really enjoyed his winters in Florida where he didn’t have to plow snow. Barry leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Patricia of 48 +years, two sons; Brett Babcock of Farwell, Kelly Babcock and wife Jessica of Clare; three sisters: Claudia Sue Higgins of Lake, Barbara June Babcock of Stuart Florida, Becky Sue Langley and husband Rick of Kapowsin, Washington; three grandchildren; Kila, Camden, and Sophea Babcock, five nephews; Jim Bailer and wife Jamie, Joel Bailer (Danielle Haring), Justin Higgins and wife April, Garrett Langley, and Dustin Langley; as well as many, many more beloved family members and great friends. A Service to celebrate Barry's life is planned for Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 2PM at the Campbell-Stocking Funeral Home in Farwell. Family and friends may visit from 10AM until the time of service at 2PM. Rev. Jane Ellen Johnson will officiate. A luncheon celebration of Barry’s life will take place after services conclude at the Doherty Hotel and Conference Center in Clare, MI.
